10 Ways to Make Money as a Freelancer 2019

October 21, 2019

Freelancing is a popular career path today because more people are appreciating the freedom that comes with being an independent contractor. As an employee, there are quite a number of regulations you have to comply with that do not apply when you’re a freelancer. Aside from being able to work in non-conventional environments, freelancing also means you are the master of your time.

To be a freelancer, you have to be a self-disciplined individual. Working from a non-traditional environment means you have to deal with many distractions. But the good thing is you’ll have no boss breathing down your neck every second of every day. Just make sure that you meet all project deadlines to retain your clients.

As a student, you can easily work part-time as a freelancer to finance yourself through college. Try Write Zillas and write jobs that work for you. Remember, you can only succeed if you go for projects you have the capacity to complete.

Know your Worth and Demand it

There is no one that understands that time is money more than a freelancer. To earn money, you need to know your worth and demand it. Don’t let clients take you for a ride when you labor for hours to make their projects a success.

Set the bar high from the get-go to eliminate any chances of clients taking advantage of you. Even if your career is a modernization of your hobby, it doesn’t justify clients paying less than you deserve.

Understand that you’re running a Business

Freelancing is a legitimate career. The fact that you’re working from non-conventional environments does not make your job any less important. When you treat yourself as a business person, clients learn to respect you.

Organize

Unlike office setups where employees find the office already organized for them, as a freelancer, it’s upon you to organize. Even as an explorer, working in a chaotic environment is not good for your productivity.

Choose a Niche

Since you’re a business person, you need to focus on a specific niche. Specializing allows you to give your best on every project.

Know where to Draw the Line

As an independent contractor, you need to set boundaries. Be clear about what you do and what you do not do.

Who is your Ideal Client

Clients are not the only ones who can set standards. You also need to define who your ideal client is.

Build a Portfolio

When you have a portfolio, convincing a new client that you’re up to the task becomes easy. This way, you won’t lose ideal clients to competitors.

Have an Exit Plan

Before you begin a freelancing business, ensure you come up with an exit plan. Don’t leave your day job before the business picks up.

Level Up

To get high-end clients, you have to polish your skills. Level up and get high-paying projects.

Build your Credibility

You need to understand that there are many people in the market posing as freelancers when they have no idea the first thing about being a freelancer. Build your credibility and stand out from the crowd.

Conclusion

Freelancing is an interesting career path because it comes with a lot of freedom. However, to earn money, you have to strategize and be self-disciplined.
