How to Save on Energy

February 17, 2021

Whether you’re looking to drastically decrease your energy bill or you’re looking to decrease your energy footprint for the good of the environment, you’ve come to the right place. Simply continue reading to discover a few simple yet effective ways to save on energy! As small daily changes can significantly decrease your energy usage.

How to Save on Energy:

Replace your windows:

The older your windows are, the more air will escape through your window and your windows’ seals. Which will make it more difficult to heat and cool your home efficiently. The best way to ensure that your home is as airtight as possible so that it retains heat in winter and traps in cool air from your air conditioning unit in summer is to have your windows replaced. Simply search for a window installer Etobicoke.

Don’t leave your lights on when you leave a room:

Each time that you leave a room, make the effort to turn the lights off. You may even want to go one step further and to invest in smart lights for each room in your home, which you’ll be able to turn off using a simple app on your smartphone. You can even use a smart speaker such as Google Home to verbally tell your smart speaker to turn lights off in a specific room.

Turn off your electronic devices when you’re not using them:

If you have a habit of keeping your laptop turned on when you’re not using it, you’re wasting unnecessary energy. So try to get into the habit of turning it off when you leave your home office, bedroom, or lounge. If you’re interested you can also configure your laptop’s settings to go into power save mode or to shut down when you leave it unattended for 10 minutes or longer.

Replace your outdated appliances and electronics with more energy-efficient models:

Another way to save valuable energy is to replace some of your outdated household appliances such as your refrigerator, washing machine, and dishwasher with newer, more energy-efficient models. As you’ll be surprised at how much energy you’ll be able to save by running modern, eco-friendly appliances. Also look at replacing your television, if it’s outdated in order to save energy.

Monitor the length of your daily showers:

Another way to work on decreasing your energy usage is to try to keep your showers to 10 minutes or less for a day. If you currently have a habit of showering twice a day and once at night, you may want to forgo your second shower and to limit your showers to the evenings. Showering in the evenings is also advisable so that you’re clean when you hop into your bed at night.

Purchase an energy-efficient heat pump for your home:

Relying on small, traditional heaters to try and warm up your home in winter, is inefficient and expensive. Instead, you’re far better off investing in purchasing a high quality, energy-efficient heat pump in order to quickly heat up your home in winter. If you live in a region that gets hot in summer, you can get a heat pump that also doubles as a convenient air conditioning unit. So that you’ll be able to cheaply cool your home during the long hot summer months.

So if you want to decrease your monthly energy bill and to do your part to help safeguard the environment for future generations, it’s well worth making small changes to your everyday routine in order to save energy!
