If you’ve ever spent time moving around Thailand and renting different condos and apartments, you may have noticed that there are certain things missing that you’d otherwise become used to having around as standard in most Western homes. Similarly, you will have likely noticed other items that you’ve never even used before (e.g., the notorious ‘bum gun’).
In this article, we’re going to share some kitchen appliances that every Bangkok condo owner can’t live without. If you are thinking about moving to Bangkok and investing in your own condo to call home, this is the article for you.
A rice cooker
Most people in Western countries are positively useless at cooking rice and now we know why! Because we always try to do it using a pan and a hob.
Why do we rarely see rice cookers in Western homes? These appliances are an absolute god-send and they make cooking perfect, fluffy rice effortless!
When you’re in Bangkok learning new recipes, you must invest in a rice cooker. And the best part? They’re super cheap!
An air fryer
Again, Thai cuisine is world-class! However, sometimes you are going to miss some of the junk food from home. And while you can get fast food and French fries in Bangkok, being able to fry up your own food – in a healthy way – is far more convenient.
A smoothie maker
You’ll find fresh fruit and veg vendors everywhere you look in Bangkok and the best part? It’s all incredibly cheap! And what better a way of leaning into a healthy lifestyle than by enjoying a delicious fruit smoothie every morning? Fresh mango, sweet and sticky pineapple, dragon fruit, and papaya! Delicious!
An oven
You may be surprised to learn that many of the condos in Bangkok will have what many Westerners would consider to be ‘incomplete kitchens’. That said, the real reason why many kitchens do not have ovens is because Thai cuisine rarely demands one.
This can take some getting used to. You could have a stunning condo like The Lighthouse Sathorn-Chareonnakorn with everything you need except for a convection oven. The good news is they’re cheap enough to buy and install so don’t panic.
While it is so cheap to eat delicious Thai food every day, some days you’ll be craving a bit of home and there’s nothing quite like a home cooked meal roasted in the oven.
An electric composter
One of the drawbacks with living in a condo is the lack of green space. However, what you can do is green up your balcony with some plants of your own! Not only that, but if you are eco-conscious, you can turn your own food waste into fertiliser for your plants using an electric composter in your kitchen!
What’s great about this is the fact that you will be doing your part to reduce the impact of organic waste going into landfills. That, and you won’t have to empty the trash quite so often because it’s stinking out your condo. It’s a win/win!
